Partner Mortage Brokers

Important: We receive no referral fees from any of our Partner Service Providers, nor are we otherwise compensated in any way. The advantage our Partners provide is access to their services for a lower cost than our customers are likely to find elsewhere. As always, our customers are under no obligation to contract the services from any of our Partner Service Providers. We simply offer the opportunity for those who wish to take advantage of it.

What Mortgage Brokers Do:

Mortgage brokers shop around for mortgages for their customers and make a deal with a mortgage companies. It is the mortgage company that is the actual lender, but buyers who need a mortgage often choose to deal with a mortgage broker who will obtain competitive rates for third-party services, such as the settlement costs charged by settlement agents, in addition to dealing with mortgage companies.

All of our partner mortgage brokers are Colorado resident brokers and members of the Upfront Mortgage Brokers Association (UMBA). UMBA Founder, Jack Guttentag outlines three basic criteria that a mortgage broker must meet to be a certified UMB:

  • UMBs disclose their fees to customers in advance and in writing, and disclose the wholesale prices (rates and points) passed through from lenders.
  • The UMB’s interests are fully aligned with those of customers.
  • UMBs credit customers with any rebates they receive from third parties.

If you choose to find a mortgage broker yourself instead of hiring one of our partner mortgage brokers, we strongly suggest that you check out Jack Guttentag’s website, the Mortgage Professor (www.mtgprofessor.com) for information on the mortgage business, tips on finding a quality mortgage broker and potential hazards that people face when buying a mortgage. Since the mortgage industry is rife with brokers who wish to take advantage of people and practice what is known as “predatory lending”, we provide access to our partner mortgage brokers, who are bound by the UMBA criteria. This way we can help our customers avoid dishonest mortgage brokers and ensure that they are treated fairly.

Jack Guttentag, a.k.a. the Mortgage Professor provides several articles detailing UMBs and what set them apart. For a detailed explanation of the three criteria above, read What is an Upfront Mortgage Broker?. To see what standards of conduct a UMB must abide by, read The UMB Commitment. If you choose to enlist the services of one of our partner mortgage brokers, or if you want to know more, read How to Deal With a UMB.
